I did want to tell the kind of story that made you feel proud of the characters rather than frustrated, so I found myself asking myself what the most sensible thing to say or do would be quite a lot.
The text and email back and forth were a lot of fun to write too. They were the part I gave my beta the most hassle about though, making sure they made sense. Because people don't text the same way they speak necessarily, and texting comes with its own set of rules too. When I think about how often a typed out a bit of text dialogue that was supposed to be from Aiba to Matsumoto, I found myself deleting and rewriting and rewording as much as I imagined Aiba would have. Conversely, Juns texts were also really easy to write and I knew just what to put straight away every time. 😊
